One of the most common and effective ways to achieve a rich blue color is by using indigo leaves. In the process of dyeing, the leaves are submerged in a vat of dye for about three hours and then removed and rinsed with water. The leaves are then dried, after which they are ground into a fine powder. This powder is then used to dye fabric. The blue color is produced when a molecule called anthraquinone reacts with a molecule called tyrosine.
