Statues of Indias national hero Bhagat Singh are rare, and this marble statue of the young revolutionary is made to order. Hes shown with his left hand holding a pistol in his belt and his right hand in a fist with his thumb raised. The artist, who created the piece in the 1990s, depicts him with his eyes closed, as hes prepared to shoot. Bhagat Singh was an Indian freedom fighter and socialist revolutionary. He is best known for his role in leading the Indian rebellion of 1929 against British colonial rule. Singh is credited with being the first person to shoot directly at a British police officer, although the claim is disputed. Singh died in police custody, shortly after being arrested by the British on 23 March 1931, when he refused to give up a revolver he was carrying. This statue of Bhagat Singh is made of marble and depicts him with his eyes closed, as hes preparing to shoot.
