Polio Vaccine

Polio vaccine is an injection given to children to prevent them from getting polio. The shot is given at two and four months of age, and then again at six months. It is given to children of all ages, including pregnant women. The vaccine is a small amount of a weakened virus, which the body then creates antibodies against. The vaccine does not give you the actual virus, but it is designed to help your body create those antibodies and fight the virus if it ever comes in contact with it.
