Anticonvulsants: Certain anticonvulsant medications, such as gabapentin and pregabalin, are also used to treat neuropathic pain, which is caused by damage or dysfunction of the nerves. These medications help stabilize overactive nerves and reduce pain signals. Antidepressants: Some antidepressant medications, particularly those from the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) or serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) classes, can be effective in managing certain types of chronic pain, such as fibromyalgia or neuropathic pain. They work by affecting the levels of neurotransmitters in the brain, which can modulate pain perception.
