Rubella Vaccine

The rubella vaccine is a shot that helps prevent rubella, which is a contagious viral infection. Rubella causes a rash and red spots on the cheeks and nose of children. It is passed through contact with an infected person or a person who has recently recovered from the virus. This vaccine is recommended for all children. Rubella, also known as German measles, is a viral disease caused by the rubella virus. Rubella usually presents as a rash on the face and neck, and can cause an itchy, red, raised bump to form on the bridge of the nose. Rubella is highly contagious and is passed through saliva and respiratory droplets. A person with rubella is likely to be contagious for four days before the rash appears and up to three weeks after the rash has disappeared.
