Tetanus Vaccine

Tetanus is a disease caused by bacteria that grows in the soil. Tetanus is most often found in areas with poor sanitation and contaminated water. It is very rare in the United States, with only about one tetanus death every year. Tetanus causes spasms of the muscles, making it difficult to breathe, swallow, or move. Tetanus can lead to lockjaw and eventually death. The tetanus vaccine is a series of shots given over a period of time to protect against tetanus.
