Vaccines are a very important part of the treatment and prevention of many diseases in animals. They are given to both prevent disease and treat an existing condition. Vaccines are typically given by injection or a drop into the animal s mouth. Veterinarians are the most common people who give vaccines. Vaccines have been developed to help prevent and treat infections in animals. Some vaccines are developed for specific diseases while others are developed to protect against a variety of diseases. Veterinarians recommend that dogs be vaccinated against rabies, distemper, and parvo. Vaccines for many other diseases exist as well.
