Walnuts

The walnut is a nut native to the eastern Mediterranean, western Asia, and northern Africa. It is one of the most widely traded nuts in the world, particularly in the European Union. It is also the name given to a group of tree species belonging to the genus Juglans, which includes several other species such as the butternut, black walnut, and Persian walnut. Walnuts are round, brown nuts that grow on trees with thickened bark and deep roots. The trees typically grow 10-30 meters tall. The nut grows in a hard-shelled green husk, and after 2-3 years it cracks open and reveals the kernel.
