Cotton cloth was introduced to Europe by Arab traders around 800 A.D. The Bahama Islands were home to cotton farms when Columbus first arrived in America in 1492. By the year 1500, cotton was well-known on a global scale. It is thought that the first cotton seeds were sown in Virginia in 1607 and Florida in 1556.
