Resorcinol

Resorcinol is a fungicide that is made by the oxidation of resorcinol aldehyde. This oxidation is catalyzed by manganese dioxide. Resorcinol has the ability to inhibit the growth of a variety of fungi, including the major species of filamentous fungi and the yeasts that cause scald. It is also used as a natural food preservative, primarily as a sugar and alcohol inhibitor.
